Depew's Angierski headed to state meet
Depew High School senior Kristen Angierski is joining John F. Kennedy's Andy Wrazen as another local athlete heading to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field championships.
Angierski won the girls' sectional triple jump with a personal-best and school-record jump of 35 feet, eight inches. She later earned a third-place finish in the long jump event with a distance of 16'3."
Angierski will participate in the state triple jump event Saturday at Cornell University in Ithaca.
Other Lady Wildcats performing well at sectionals included senior Maggie Needham, who finished third in the weight throw, and junior Jamie Wasilewski, who placed fifth in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 15'4."
Depew's 4x400-meter relay team- consisting of Liz Budzinski, Maria Walter, Alyx Tobolski and Mindy Mooney- finished with a personal best time of 4.40 seconds.
On the boys' side, Depew seniors Mike Lewandowski and Ross Cole finished fifth and sixth in the weight throw, respectively.
Also, senior Mike Wilkowski ran a personal-best time in the 55-meter hurdles (9.03 seconds). Junior Ryan Storms ran a personal-best time of 7.07 seconds in the 55-meter dash.
