For the second year in a row, the Cheektowaga Central wrestling team took home another Erie County Interscholastic Conference Tournament championship, winning Saturday's 27- team tourney at East Aurora High School.

The Warriors captured the title with an overall score of 218, topping runner-up Lancaster's 194 and thirdplace Clarence's 176.

Nine Central athletes placed at the event, including five advancing to the finals. Three Warriors- juniors Jared Messina (125-pound weight division) and Clay Reeb (145) and senior Jonah Messina (152)- were crowned as champions. Also, junior Scott Patyzk (140) and senior Adam Piscitello (171) each placed second, while seniors Russell Wojtusiak (135), Mike Kiripolsky (160) and Matt Weigand (189) finished third.

Senior Jake Havernick (285) placed fifth in his class.

Central also defeated league opponent Pioneer, 47-20, on January 16 to improve to 6-0 in Erie County Interscholastic Conference-II.

The Warriors have clinched their third consecutive ECIC-II title. Central faced league opponent Amherst Wednesday, with results coming too late for press time.
