Appointing Kaznowski is a vote for residents Editorial
As a member and current president of the Town Park Homeowners Association, Stan Kaznowski has done a lot for Cheektowaga. He's been a voice for stronger housing codes, works with neighborhood crime watch groups, helped other homeowner groups and launched a "neighborhood sweep" campaign designed to make neighborhoods stronger and cleaner. He has also, when needed, diplomatically confronted the town board. He has been a dutiful watchdog of town government and is now on the verge of joining the board himself. Kaznowski's appointment could be the start of something good.
Whether it's real or not, there is a perception in Cheektowaga that certain neighborhoods of the town receive preferential treatment. Unfortunately, most town board members live in the "preferred" neighborhoods, which does nothing to dissuade those who believe the perception. Kaznowski, understands firsthand the problems residents face in the Walden, Villa, Pine Hill and Town Park neighborhoods. So, too, does incoming supervisor Mary Holtz.
This isn't to say that the western neighborhoods are neglected. The town is spending good money to support these areas through the Neighborhood Wellness Department, headed by Tom Adamczak, who also understands the neighborhoods. Still, Kaznowski offers a voice for those who believe they have been ignored.
We admit we don't know enough about Jim Meyers, who couldn't garner enough votes to snatch the Democratic Committee's nomination on Monday night, to offer an opinion about him. He may very well be qualified to serve on the board, and judging by the 41 percent of the votes he received, many believe in him.
At this time, Kaznowski has displayed by example that he understands the town, its residents and their needs. Kaznowski's appointment will be a boon to the residents of Cheektowaga, whether they live on Barbara Place or Barbados Drive.
