Wildcats stay hot, earn pair of non-league wins over NT
Thanks to several veteran leaders, the Depew club hockey team is surging early and scoring often this season.
The Wildcats defeated non-league opponent North Tonawanda last Thursday, 7-4, and again on Sunday, 4-2.
Last Thursday, senior forward John Leistner led the 'Cats with two goals and two assists. Junior forward Chris Kendall (one goal, three helpers) filled the scoresheet, and forwards Alfredo Scarpone and Pat Gillen each contributed one goal and one assist. Defenseman Jim Leair and forward Jeremy Krol each hit the back of the net once.
On Sunday, senior Adam Kaplewicz contributed two goals and one assist, while fellow senior T.J. Pilarz (one goal, two helpers) and Kendall (one goal, one assist) also recorded multi-point games.
Goaltender Ryan Clarke earned the win between the pipes, stopping 25 of 27 shots.
The Wildcats (4-1 overall) faced league opponent Olean Wednesday night, with results coming too late for press time. Depew travels to Niagara University on Sunday for an 8:30 p.m. face-off against league foe Lewiston-Porter.
