JFK teacher to help students gain character
John F. Kennedy High School teacher/consultant Patricia Tooke is hoping students take the time to give back to the community with their words and efforts.
Tooke is directing the Student Character Education Committee, a group dedicated to helping needy individuals in the community.
The Cheektowaga-Sloan Board of Education selected the new committee for a one-year trial, with approval next year hinging on interest gathered from students participating in the after-school group.
Tooke, who was hoping for at least 20 students to join the committee, said much of the participants' time will be spent running food, clothing and toy drives around the holidays,
