Barbara Place compromise reached, truck issue remains By John J. Hopkins Times
Although a compromise has been reached that allows Barbara Place residents to park their cars on the street overnight they are prohibited from parking during the day to accomodate deliveries to a local store and complaints about store deliveries remain.
Parking will be prohibited along a 150-foot portion of the street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to give tractor trailer drivers easier access to the loading dock of a Family Dollar store located on Genesee Street at Andrews Avenue.
Councilmember Tom Johnson said that the compromise allows residents on Barbara Place, where parking is scarce, to park on the street overnight.
John Marriott, a member of the Town Park Homeowners Association, applauded the move, noting that Barbara residents did not favor parking restrictions along their street when it was first considered by the town board in June.
"Parking is already tight on Barbara Place because there are a number of houses that don't have driveways," Marriott noted. "This works for the residents and the business."
However, there appears to be another issue with the store that residents would like resolved.
Some residents have complained that tractor trailers arrive at the store's loading dock at 1 a.m., when they're trying to sleep.
Residents also say that sometimes the trailers are left at the loading dock for several days, allowing the store to use the trailers as temporary "warehouses."
