Children removed from squalid house
Three children, all less than five years old, were removed from squalid conditions inside an East End Avenue home Saturday evening after Cheektowaga police, investigating the welfare of a child, discovered the house's deplorable state.
The children's parents, a 30-yearold man and a 24-year-old woman, were arrested and each face three charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Police have not released the adults' names to protect the identities of the children.
The three children, a 4-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl, and an infant boy were first placed in the care of Child Protective Services before they were released to a grandfather.
According to police, the children appeared to be "very dirty" and their hygiene was poor.
Police responded to the house at 119 East End at 9:45 p.m. July 7 after a passerby reported there was a small girl crying while she stood at the front door. There did not appear to be an adult supervising the child, the caller added.
The responding officer went to the house and explained to the man who answered the door why he was sent to the house. The officer asked to see the girl.
"He entered the residence and detected a foul odor," said Captain John Glascott. "The officer observed the residence was in deplorable condition."
