Depew board fills transportation post
The Depew Board of Education accepted the appointment of a new supervisor of transportation and granted tenure to 24 teachers and an assistant principal at Monday's meeting.
According to Sue Wagner, board president, whom the Times reached by phone yesterday morning, the board appointed Douglas Baumgarden to the open transportation supervisor's position for a 52- week probationary period beginning June 5, 2007.
Baumgarden comes to the district from the Gowanda Schools where he has been supervisor of transportation since 2002.
The acceptance of Baumgarden's appointment by the board ended a six-month search by the Civil Service Employees Association.
Wagner noted that the board also granted tenure Monday to its eligible staff including Lynn M. Girdlestone, assistant principal at the high school.
The next board meeting will be June 19 at 7 p.m. with a change of venue to the high school auditorium.
That meeting will be the final meeting for Superintendent of Schools Robert DeFilippo, who is retiring at the end of the academic year. A replacement has yet to be named.
The board will also hold a special executive session meeting to discuss personnel matters at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
