Maryvale student charged in copycat shooting threat
A 16-year-old Nokomis Parkway male was arrested and charged with second-degree menacing after police responded to Maryvale High School April 20 at 7:40 a.m. to provide extra security following the recent shootings at Virginia Tech.
A complainant told police that on the previous day the male picked up scissors and made a stabbing motion toward a female student. The male also allegedly stated, "I'm bringing a gun to school," as well as "I'm going to shoot up the school."
The male had also reportedly talked previously about shooting, guns and bombs on several occasions.
April 20 was also the eighth anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre in which 13 students and teachers were gunned down in Littleton, Colorado before the two shooters killed themselves.
