JFK's Craft finishes 10th at NYS indoor track meet
John F. Kennedy High School senior Greg Craft just missed out on earning a top-six medal at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association indoor track and field championships at Cornell University in Ithaca.
Craft, who was participating in his second consecutive state competition in the pole vault, finished seventh among New York State participants, 10th overall, with a distance of 13 feet, six inches.
"All in all, it really wasn't a bad weekend for Greg," said JFK head coach Pete Szymanski. "It was definitely better than last year...We'll take it and use it as a learning experience toward the upcoming spring season and finally crack the 14-foot barrier."
Also among locals, Depew senior Jerry Leidenfrost did not advance past the preliminary round but did run a personal-best time of 6.82 seconds in the 55-meter dash.
