JFK boys bowling keeps success going

So far this season, a mix of veterans and youngsters have helped the John F. Kennedy boys bowling team stay ahead of schedule in its development in Erie County Interscholastic Conference-IV.

JFK improved to 4-0 overall after knocking off league opponents Holland (December 13) and East Aurora (Monday).

The Bears also faced local and league rival Cleveland Hill Wednesday afternoon, with results coming too late for press time.

Senior co-captains David Harhigh (team-high series of 565) and Jerome Okonzak (high game of 223) led the Bears’ “A” team in a 5-2 win over Holland.

JFK’s “B” squad, led by freshman Paul Czajka (186 per-game average) and eighth grader Zak Kuzara (184 average), swept a crucial three points from Holland. Senior Dale Brucz bowled a careerbest 211 game. JFK thumped East Aurora, 7-0,

as Harhigh rolled a series-high 598 with games of 214, 201 and 183. Eighth grader Zak Kuzara led the “B” squad with a series of 561 (198, 211, 158).

Leading the “C’ squad were seniors Max Wenk and Dale Brucz, who had high games of 200 and 177, respectively.

Bears head coach Pete Odrobina said he likes what he’s seen from his team so far this winter.

“It’s really been a dream season up to this point,” said Odrobina, whose squad returns to action January 2, 2007 at Depew. “We really don’t have any superstars on the team but with averages in the range of 160 to 185, we really have been more competitive than even I could imagine.”
