Making our list, checking it twice

Another Christmas is here and that means that the Cheektowaga Times will be closed next week, December 25-29 so that the staff may enjoy the holiday with their families. There will be no paper on December 28. The Times office will reopen on January 2, 2007 at 9 a.m.

Everyone at the Cheektowaga Times wishes our customers and advertisers a safe, happy and healthy holiday season. With that in mind, we offer our annual Christmas “gift” list, which includes actual wishes and some playful comments.

To the Catholic Health System and all Cheektowaga residents: A fully-functioning, successful St. Joseph Hospital for many decades to come.

To outgoing assemblyman Paul Tokasz: Best of luck in his future endeavors after serving his constituents so well.

To Assemblyman-elect Dennis Gabryszak: Continued success in his new role.

To the Cheektowaga Republican Party: Money to actually fund an election campaign.

To Village of Depew residents: A reduction in the size of the Village Board of Trustees.

To Mike and Mary Ann Zylka: Success in their new Just Pizza franchise after a great run with Ja-Fa-Fa Hots. The hot dogs will be missed, but we’re looking forward to those specialty pizzas on the north end of town!

To the local high school fall sports teams: A full schedule in 2007, devoid of freak snowstorms.

To local firefighters: A renovated Broadway training center so that they won’t wonder if they’ll break an ankle or worse when they enter the crumbling facility.

To residents living on streets with solar lights: A bright future. This was one of our wishes last year, but nothing has been solved and those residents remain in the dark. We’ll keep this on our list until the not-ready-for-prime-time solar lights are history and replaced with more reliable technology.

To our readers: A safe and happy holiday season.
