For village's best interest Dillemuth must resign
Angry Depew residents have been asking for months why William Dillemuth Jr., a village trustee, has not attended many of the the twicemonthly village board meetings. Dillemuth, who was elected by the public in March 2005 to the part-time position, has missed- by his own count- four meetings since the start of 2006. According to board meeting minutes posted on the village's official Web site, Dillemuth failed to attend eight of 14 meetings in 2006.
When a person is chosen to represent the public, he must do everything within his power to attend meetings of the board to which he has been elected. During a telephone interview with the Times, Dillemuth casually indicated that if serving on the board was "more than 50 bucks a week, it would be great." Clearly, Dillemuth is not doing all he can to serve in the best interests of his fellow Depew residents.
There is no shame in an elected trustee stepping down from a board. We have witnessed three other elected board members leave their posts in the last three weeks. Citing health issues, Eugene Molinaro stepped down from the Depew board on June 22. Anthony Cervi resigned from the Maryvale Board of Education on June 26 when he realized that his law practice was preventing him from adequately serving Maryvale residents. Depew School Board member Scott Fullington also resigned this week.
All of these men stepped down because they realized they would not be able to adequately serve the public. Dillemuth needs to consider the same conclusion and withdraw for the good of Depew.
