| A familiar face is returning to the Cleveland Hill School District, this time as superintendent.
The Board of Education approved Wednesday the hiring of former Cleveland Hill teacher and current Silver Creek Superintendent Gordon T. Salisbury to fill the district’s superintendent vacancy created when Bruce Inglis announced his retirement after seven years at the post earlier this school year.
Salisbury is a familiar face to some school staff and board members, having taught in the district from 1992-99. He moved on to become an assistant principal, then principal, in the Pioneer School District before being hired at Silver Creek.
“I got to talk with many of his peers at Silver Creek and everyone seemed disappointed to see him go, but they all sang his praises,” said Tom Kulaszewski, board vice president. Kulaszewski was a member of the approximately 30-person committee, consisting of school staff, administration and students, along with community members, who helped make the selection.
“We’re familiar with his skills and expertise as a teacher, now we’re looking forward to him bringing his skills and expertise as a superintendent,” Kulaszewski added.
Board President Robert Polino said the open position attracted 26 applicants, which he thought was unheard of because the position is currently “at a premium.” Six candidates were interviewed.
Polino was impressed with many of the candidates and said they were likewise impressed with the process, especially the questions and observations of Cleveland Hill students on the committee.
“We went through each candidate examining what was better from each and reached what we thought was the best,” Polino said.
Salisbury will begin his new position July 1.
