| The People's Voice Party of Depew, making its election night debut, swept four trustee positions and the mayor's post Tuesday and residents in the process have elected the first female mayor in the village's history.
The decision gives the People's Voice a 5-2 advantage on the village board, which had been controlled by the Depew Action Party for the last 12 years.
Barbara Alberti defeated incumbent mayor Joe McIntosh by capturing 63.5 percent of the vote.
In elections for three, four-year trustee positions, incumbent William Maryniewski plus newcomers Joe Keefe and Carl Monti all won by comfortable margins. The Action Party's Sandra Pieczynski, an incumbent, along with Jeff Davis and Don Jakubowski fell short.
Unofficial tallies gave the three winners an aggragate total of 3,117 votes, to the Action Party's aggragate 1,943.
In a race for a two-year post, incumbent Eugene Molinaro of the Action Party fell to People's Voice challenger Linda Hammer by an unofficial tally of 1,078 to 614.
A referendum placed before voters to reduce the size of the village board was overwhelmingly approved, with nearly 89 percent of Depew voters approving the measure.
In the Village of Sloan, voting was close, but newcomer Judith Calhoon of the People's Choice Party was elected to a four-year trustee term. She will join Norbert Czosek of the New Era Party, who was re-elected to a second four-year term. Denis Sommerfield of the People's Choice Party fell short in his bid for a third straight term.
