| South Line firefighters continue to battle a fire that broke out in a Borden Road home at the northwest corner of Brookedge Road Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Working under severe cold temperatures, firefighters used several hoses to pour thousands of gallons of water on the conflagration.
The structure was still burning at 5 p.m., but fire officials reported that the bulk of the fire was out at 5:30 p.m.
Borden Road was shut down to traffic at Losson Road on the south end and Strasmer Road at the north end.
Neighboring fire districts including Bellevue, Twin District from the Town of Lancaster and East Seneca from the Town of West Seneca were assisting at the scene.
No injuries were apparent as of 5 p.m., but there were reports that at least one pet may have perished in the fire. Animal control officers were standing by at the home.
Fire investigators were at the site, awaiting safe entry into the structure.
Additional details will be reported in the March 8, 2007 edition of the Cheektowaga Times.
